World record: making a painting every 10 minutes for 12 hours!

I have participated in the Lock-Me-Up campaign for years by making paintings on the spot with all participants in a booth. I donated these paintings with the intention that every participant could auction them on his or her auction site. This has resulted in good yields every year.

This year I wanted to go big. I’ve set a world record.

As an artist I also locked myself up for 12 hours in a cubicle measuring 1×2 meters. But then completely filled with canvases and paint. In 12 hours I literally painted my way to freedom.

All paintings had to be representative paintings as I normally always make them. The attempt was successful for me because I made 72 paintings within 12 hours.

In those 12 hours I got 2 x a cup of rice and water and I was allowed to have a break 2 x 10 minutes. And then I just had to pop!

About Lock me Up for Free a Girl

Millions of girls worldwide are forced into prostitution. In India, thousands of girls are locked up in brothels, in cubicles measuring 1 by 2 meters. Their life is hell. To draw attention to this problem, the Lock me Up – Free a Girl promotion was held from Tuesday 2 June to Saturday 6 June. In order to collect as much money as possible, participants had themselves locked up in such a box at various locations throughout the Netherlands for 12 hours. The more money that is raised, the more girls Free a Girl can free from prostitution. Lock me Up – Free a Girl is an initiative of the Free a Girl foundation and Wimmy Hu (General Advisor of Free a Girl). The campaign was a great success in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
