Stop Child Abuse Foundation
Several hundred girls can be freed from prostitution. The campaign ‘Lock me up, Free a Girl’, for which Dutch celebrities have had themselves locked up in a box of two by one meter for twelve hours over the past ten days, has raised an amount of at least 119,244 euros. With this money, the Stop Child Abuse Foundation can offer hundreds of girls a better future in countries such as India, Cambodia, Thailand, Bangladesh and also the Netherlands.
Twenty-two Paintings
All participants in the ‘Lock me up, Free a Girl’ campaign had themselves locked up voluntarily – for twelve hours at a time – to show how hopeless the lives of the girls are. During their stay they often devised the most creative actions to raise money. Fitness guru Carlos Lens led a workout from his booth, in which a few dozen passers-by spontaneously jumped in front of the window of The Red Sun. And Manuela Kemp used her time ‘under lock and key’ to assemble bracelets and then sell them via social media. The proceeds went directly to Stop Child Abuse. This also applies to the proceeds of the 22 paintings that artist Geoffrey Wijn made during the campaign, each of which featured a Famous One.
